Canada Issues 380 Permanent Residence Invitations in Latest Express Entry Draw

Canada has continued its targeted immigration drive through the Express Entry system, issuing 380 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence in a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw held on 11 May 2026.

The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score required was 798.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) said category-based selection will remain a key part of the Express Entry system this year. The approach is intended to address labour shortages by prioritising candidates with experience in sectors facing high demand.

The targeted categories include healthcare and social services, STEM professions, education, skilled trades, and transport. French-speaking applicants are also being prioritised as part of Canada’s efforts to support francophone communities outside Quebec and strengthen bilingualism across the country.

Candidates who receive provincial nominations continue to benefit from a major advantage in the system, as nominations significantly increase CRS scores and improve the likelihood of receiving permanent residence invitations. Express Entry draws are now divided into three categories.

General draws invite the highest-ranking candidates across eligible immigration programmes. Programme-specific draws focus on streams such as the PNP. Category-based draws target applicants with qualifications and experience in sectors identified as national priorities.

Canada’s focus on healthcare workers, teachers, and skilled tradespeople reflects ongoing staffing shortages in essential services and infrastructure projects. The emphasis on STEM professionals and transport workers also highlights the government’s focus on innovation, supply chains, and economic stability.

The latest CRS threshold demonstrates the competitive nature of the process. However, the policy direction indicates that Canada is continuing to seek skilled international workers to support economic growth and labour market needs.
