Kenyan Migrant Worker in Dubai Fights for Life as Another Dies in Qatar

Kevin Kimutai, a recently arrived Kenyan worker in Dubai, is in intensive care after his health deteriorated sharply days into his new job.

Meanwhile, Eric Maasai, who had lived and worked in Qatar for nearly ten years, has died reportedly of a heart attack. Kimutai, who borrowed money to travel to Dubai, had been in good health before leaving Kenya.

His recruiting agent, Faith Maina, said the company employing him, Alkhayat, will terminate his contract and repatriate him once he recovers. Although the employer has agreed to cover most medical expenses, Kimutai’s family remains responsible for a significant portion of the costs.

Maina has appealed to the Kenyan community and well-wishers to help raise the outstanding funds. In Qatar, Maasai was widely respected among Kenyans living abroad. His sudden death prompted tributes from friends and colleagues, who remembered him for his generosity, leadership, and support to the community.
