Water Supply Cut to Hit Nairobi Estates as NCWSC Repairs Major Pipeline Leak
Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) will suspend water supply to several parts of Nairobi from 10 p.m. on Monday, 15 June 2026, until midday on Tuesday, 16 June 2026, to repair a leak on a major transmission pipeline.
The interruption follows the detection of a leak on the NCT–Kigoro–Gigiri–Kabete transmission line at Gatundu. NCWSC said the shutdown is necessary to allow repair works and restore the reliability of the water supply system.
Areas expected to be affected include Westlands, Lavington, Kilimani, Upper Hill, Kibera, Karen, Uthiru, Kangemi, Kawangware, Ngong Road, Madaraka and Lang’ata. The outage will also affect areas served by MAVWASCO and Oloolaiser Water Company, extending the disruption beyond Nairobi.
NCWSC has advised residents and businesses to store enough water before the interruption begins. The company noted that the outage will continue into the weekday morning period, when demand is typically high among households and commercial users.
In a public notice, the utility said: “This is to inform you of a temporary water supply interruption that will affect several residential and commercial areas in the City. The interruption is due to a leakage on the NCT–Kigoro–Gigiri–Kabete transmission pipeline at Gatundu.”
Customers seeking further information or assistance have been directed to the company’s toll-free helpline, 0800 724 366, which operates daily from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. The planned shutdown comes three months after another major disruption in March, when flooding damaged several pipelines and left 15 estates without water.
NCWSC, which was incorporated in 2003 as a subsidiary of Nairobi City County, is responsible for water and sewerage services in the capital. Its infrastructure development partner, the Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA), oversees long-term improvements to the network.
