Anguish as Two Guards Remain Missing After South C Collapse
Families of two security guards missing after a building collapsed in South C, Nairobi, are urging authorities to speed up rescue efforts as search operations continue.
The building collapsed at about 4:30 am on Friday, leaving Ali Adan Galgallo and Hassan Bulleh Huqa unaccounted for. Both men, in their late twenties, were on duty on the third floor at the time. They are members of the Gabra community from Moyale and each is survived by a wife and three children.
Relatives and community leaders have remained at the site since the incident, with some travelling from Moyale to support the families. Tension and anxiety have grown as hours pass without confirmation of the men’s whereabouts.
Dr Roba Dubasharamo, speaking on behalf of the families, said their priority is the rescue of those trapped and clear communication from authorities. He said the families want accurate and timely information as operations continue, describing the missing men as key providers for their households.
Political leaders have also called for increased urgency. Marsabit Senator Mohamed Said Chute thanked emergency teams, Nairobi County officials and the Kenya Defence Force for their involvement but asked for faster action. He said the families need clear answers on whether their relatives are alive.
Marsabit County Assembly Speaker Edin Wario Dida, acting as a spokesperson for the families, said they are not focused on assigning blame. He said they want visible progress at the site and urged the government to deploy more equipment, including cranes, to remove heavy debris obstructing access.
The incident has renewed concern over building safety in Nairobi amid rapid urban development. For the families at the scene, however, the immediate concern remains the rescue of their relatives and confirmation of their fate. Rescue teams continued operations as families called for speed and sustained effort to locate the missing men.
