Kenyan Man Missing in Russia After Military Job Promise, Family Seeks Answers

A Kenyan man who travelled to Russia for a military job has been missing since mid-July, leaving his family in distress and seeking answers.

Oscar Khagola Mutoka, a Kenyan national, departed Nairobi on 25 June 2025 for Rostov-on-Don, Russia, with the promise of a military position arranged by Festus Omwambia of the Global Face Human Resource Agency. Khagola was reportedly recruited to join the “African Wagner Group,” an affiliate of Russian forces, though no official confirmation of his involvement or current whereabouts has been provided.

His wife, Milcah Wangila, last spoke to him on 16 July. During that conversation, Khagola mentioned purchasing a Russian SIM card to facilitate communication, but since then, his phone has been unreachable. Wangila is now left in anguish, unable to explain her husband’s sudden disappearance to their children.

"I want to plead with the President and the Principal Secretary in charge," Wangila said, urging the government to help locate her husband. "We just want to know where our loved one is."

Despite multiple inquiries to the agency that arranged his travel, Wangila has received no clear answers. Her frustration grows as weeks of silence continue.
