ODM Convention to Focus on Oburu Odinga Endorsement and UDA Talks Only
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will limit its special delegates convention on 27 March to endorsing Oburu Odinga as party leader and approving talks with William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Deputy Chairperson Otiende Amollo said the meeting will address only these two items. Speaking at Kang’o Kajaramogi during Oburu Odinga’s coronation as a clan spokesperson, he said that the agenda had been deliberately restricted to prevent confusion.
Amollo said party leadership had already agreed on Oburu Odinga’s appointment at the National Executive Committee level and that the convention would formalise the decision. He added that any attempt to introduce additional agenda items would not be accepted.
The announcement follows speculation that the convention might consider creating a deputy party leader position for Winnie Odinga or appointing Babu Owino as secretary general. These claims have been rejected. Oburu Odinga has described such reports as false.
Internal divisions remain within ODM. A faction known as Linda Mwananchi, led by Edwin Sifuna and Babu Owino, has questioned the legitimacy of the convention and plans to hold a separate rally in Nairobi on the same day.
