Kenyan Woman in the US Gives Birth at 45 After Years of Waiting

A Kenyan woman living in the United States has given birth to her first child at the age of 45 after years of waiting.

Suzzie Blessed announced the birth of her son, Baraka Waithaka, on 1 March in a Facebook post. She described the moment as the result of long-standing faith, resilience, and perseverance after facing doubt from others about her ability to conceive. She wrote that many had labelled her barren but said her experience had proved them wrong.

The birth was followed by a period of uncertainty. Suzzie delivered her son by Caesarean section and was unable to hold him immediately, as medical staff transferred the newborn to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). She described the separation as distressing, recalling hearing her baby cry before he was taken away by a medical team.

She said the experience left her lying on the operating table, unable to move and reliant on trust in the medical staff. During that time, she said she prayed for her son’s safety and recovery as he received specialised care.

Suzzie also noted that her parents were not alive to witness the birth, which she described as a deeply personal loss given the significance of the moment.
Her account has received messages of support from people across different countries.
