KeNHA Dismisses Viral Flooded Green Park Photo as Fake
The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has dismissed a viral image of the Greenpark pedestrian underpass, which appeared to show the facility flooded.
The authority confirmed that the image is AI-generated and does not reflect the actual state of the underpass. KeNHA's statement follows widespread online circulation of the image, which had raised concerns about the construction and drainage systems of the Sh2 billion project at the busy Haile Selassie Avenue–Uhuru Highway intersection.
The authority reassured the public that the underpass is equipped with a comprehensive drainage system designed to prevent flooding. Water entering the structure is collected in a chamber and pumped out, while raised entry points prevent external runoff from entering.
"The image is AI-generated and intended to mislead," KeNHA said, urging the public to rely on official sources for accurate updates.
The authority emphasised its commitment to maintaining public confidence in the integrity of national infrastructure projects. The Greenpark pedestrian underpass, part of a wider project to improve traffic flow and safety at a major Nairobi junction, is expected to open in June. It is one of four underpasses designed to accommodate over 21,000 pedestrians daily.
The project also includes modern amenities such as washrooms, stalls, and an aeration system for user comfort. Round-the-clock monitoring will be in place to ensure safety.
In addition to easing pedestrian-traffic conflict, the underpasses form part of a broader government initiative to modernise urban transport infrastructure.
