‘Rebel’ MPs Moved to New Posts in National Assembly Committee Changes

A wide-ranging reorganisation of National Assembly committees has reassigned several lawmakers, including members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), to new roles.

Among the most prominent changes, Kisumu County MP Ruth Odinga has been moved from the Agriculture Committee to the Members’ Services and Facilities Committee. Suba South MP Caroli Omondi has left his position as chair of the Constitutional Implementation Oversight Committee and will now serve on the Sports and Culture Committee.

Baringo North MP William Kamket takes over as chair of the Constitutional Implementation Oversight Committee. Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi, formerly vice-chair of the Public Investments Committee on Governance and Education, has been reassigned to the Constitutional Implementation Oversight Committee. He is replaced by Kasipul MP Ong’ondo Boyd Were.

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has returned to the Constitutional Implementation Oversight Committee and also joined the Regional Development Committee, replacing Tetu MP Geoffrey Wandeto. Her former seat on the Members’ Services and Facilities Committee has been filled by nominated MP Teresia Wanjiru Mwangi.

Butere MP Tindi Mwale has been removed from the Committee on Delegated Legislation and replaced by Ugunja MP Omondi Moses Okoth. Mbeere North MP Leo Wa Muthende has joined both the Committee on Implementation and the Environment, Forestry and Mining Committee. He fills vacancies left by West Pokot Woman Representative Rael Chepkemoi and the late Isiolo MP Bidu Mohamed Tubi.

Malava MP David Ndakwa and Juja MP George Koimburi have been appointed to the National Cohesion and Equal Opportunity Committee, replacing the late nominated MP Joseph Hamisi and Nakuru MP Liza Chelule respectively. Ndakwa will also take Hamisi’s place on the Sports and Culture Committee.

The Parliamentary Broadcasting and Library Committee has added Kesses MP Julius Kipletting, Tetu MP Wandeto, and Magarini MP Harrison Kombe. They replace Marakwet West MP Timothy Kipchumba, Juja MP Koimburi, and Budalangi MP Raphael Wanjala. Chesumei MP Paul Biego has joined the Public Petitions Committee, succeeding Tubi. Koimburi has also been appointed to the Regional Integration Committee, replacing Bahati MP Irene Njoki.
