Ruto Sponsors Man United and Arsenal Fans for UK Football Trip

President William Ruto has pledged to sponsor two Kenyan football content creators, Masagara and Usefulidioty, for trips to the United Kingdom to watch their respective clubs play live.

Ruto made the announcement at State House in October 2024, following a discussion with Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, known as Jalang’o. The pledge came after Jalang’o raised the issue of Talanta Stadium, which is nearing completion on Ngong Road and will host the Africa Cup of Nations in 2027. 

During the conversation, Jalang’o suggested that Masagara, a Manchester United fan, be sponsored for a trip to England. Ruto, an Arsenal supporter, agreed to the idea on the condition that an Arsenal fan, Usefulidioty, would also be sponsored. Both will travel in business class and receive accommodation.

This gesture is part of a broader effort by Ruto to engage with Kenya’s digital youth. Just weeks earlier, the President had pledged one million shillings each to TikTok personalities Majembe and Mbavu Destroyer, who are set to face off in an amateur boxing match. 

Additionally, Ruto committed to covering the costs for 4,000 fans to attend the event. Ruto’s support for content creators comes as the government works to position Talanta Stadium as a symbol of Kenya’s readiness to host major international football events. 

With the stadium 86 percent complete, the government aims to highlight its significance by linking it to global sporting experiences. This approach also serves to engage local digital influencers, further merging infrastructure development with cultural outreach.
