Police Open Inquiries Into Mysterious Student Death, Kisumu Stabbing and Nairobi Killing

Police in Homa Bay, Kisumu and Nairobi are investigating three separate incidents that have resulted in fatalities.

In Homa Bay County, a 15-year-old student at Saye Mixed Secondary School in Rachuonyo Subcounty collapsed while playing on the school field and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. The incident occurred on 23 January, and police confirmed the body has been taken to the mortuary for post-mortem examination. The cause of death remains undetermined.

In Kisumu County, a confrontation at the Kondele roundabout on 24 January ended in violence after a motorist, reportedly angered when his vehicle was struck, retrieved a kitchen knife from his car and stabbed a rider in the stomach. The victim died at the scene.

Fellow riders attempted to prevent police from removing the body, forcing officers to withdraw briefly before restoring order. Authorities have appealed to the suspect to surrender, warning that legal action will follow once he is arrested.

In Nairobi’s Githurai 44 estate, detectives are investigating the killing of 47-year-old Christopher Muchiri. Relatives said he had gone to an apartment to demand repayment of a debt but was later found with severe head injuries and lying in a pool of blood. Police confirmed the body is awaiting autopsy, and no arrests have been made.
