Ten Dead, 15 Injured in Naivasha Night Crash
Ten people were killed and more than fifteen others injured in a road crash on Sunday night along the Nakuru–Nairobi highway at Karai in Naivasha.
The collision involved a Greenline Bus Company vehicle travelling towards Nakuru and a Toyota Hiace matatu operated by Nanyuki Cab Shuttle. Police said the bus driver attempted to avoid an oncoming vehicle, swerved from the lane, and collided head-on with the matatu. Both vehicles were extensively damaged, with the 16-seater matatu crushed by the impact.
Nakuru County Police Commander Emmanuel Epuru said seven passengers died at the scene, while three others died after being taken to hospital. The injured were admitted to various medical facilities within Naivasha subcounty for treatment.
Police officers arrived shortly after the crash and secured the area. The wreckage was removed and taken to a local police station to allow traffic to resume along the busy highway.
The accident occurred at a section of road that has previously recorded fatal crashes. In a recent incident at the same location, former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo was killed in a separate collision.
The Nakuru–Nairobi highway is one of the country’s main transport routes, carrying heavy commercial and passenger traffic. Authorities have repeatedly raised concerns over safety along the highway, particularly at locations identified as high risk.
