Over 211,000 Learners Approved in Grade 10 Review Placement

The Ministry of Education has published the final results for the Grade 10 Senior School placement review, following an overwhelming number of review requests.

The original placement exercise, held from 14 to 19 December, allocated learners to their Senior School pathways. After an appeals window from 23 to 29 December, the Ministry processed over 355,000 review applications, with 211,636 resulting in successful changes. However, many learners were unsuccessful due to limited school capacity or unavailable subject combinations.

The high demand for places in top institutions, such as Alliance High, Kenya High, and Mangu High, reflects the ongoing competition for a limited number of spots, with these schools receiving tens of thousands of applications for just a few hundred places.

Data from the placement shows that 51% of learners have been allocated to STEM pathways, in line with government priorities to boost science and technology. Social Sciences account for 38%, while Arts and Sports Science make up the remaining 11%.

Despite the high volume of review requests, 88% of students have secured placement, either through their initial allocation or revised choices. A second review period will open from 6 to 9 January 2026 for those still awaiting placement.

The release of joining instructions, available from 30 December, provides further guidance for families.
