Gachagua Woos Diaspora as DCP Plans Global Expansion
Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has moved to strengthen the Democratic Change Party’s presence abroad, placing diaspora mobilisation at the centre of its political strategy.
Gachagua hosted leaders of the party’s Diaspora Chapter at his Wamunyoro residence on 20 December, where discussions focused on expanding the party’s reach outside Kenya. The meeting brought together representatives from various countries to review organisational progress and outline plans for future growth.
He said the talks followed his recent engagements with Kenyans living overseas, including a tour of the United States earlier this year. Gachagua described those meetings as productive, noting strong interest among diaspora communities in participating more actively in Kenya’s political affairs.
Diaspora leaders briefed him on the establishment and growth of DCP chapters in different regions. Gachagua confirmed that the party is planning visits to other continents in 2026, during which it intends to set up additional satellite offices to support coordination and outreach among Kenyans abroad.
The plans build on the opening of DCP’s first overseas satellite office in Seattle, Washington, in July. The North Pacific Chapter was launched as a pilot initiative, with the party indicating it would be replicated in other areas with large Kenyan populations.
At home, Gachagua pointed to recent by-election wins in Kakamega, Narok and Nairobi City County as signs of the party’s expanding support. He said the results reflected DCP’s ability to organise effectively and communicate its policies to voters.
