Ndindi Nyoro Earns Second Master’s Degree Weeks After UoN Graduation

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has earned a second master’s degree, completing two postgraduate economics programmes within the same academic year.

Nyoro graduated on Friday from Kenyatta University with a Master’s in Economics (Policy and Management), weeks after receiving a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Nairobi in September. The two degrees were pursued almost concurrently at the two public universities.

Speaking after the Kenyatta University graduation ceremony, Nyoro said managing the dual programmes had been demanding but worthwhile. He said the decision was driven by a desire to strengthen his economic judgement and noted that interaction with lecturers and fellow students was a key part of the learning experience.

Although both qualifications are in economics, they differ in focus. The University of Nairobi programme emphasises economic theory, econometrics, and quantitative analysis. Kenyatta University’s course concentrates on policy application, public finance, and management within government institutions.

Combined, the degrees provide both technical analysis and applied policy training relevant to legislative work. Nyoro’s academic focus aligns closely with his role in Parliament. As former chair of the National Assembly’s Budget and Appropriations Committee, he has frequently raised concerns about Kenya’s growing public debt, currently estimated at Sh12 trillion.

His parliamentary contributions have consistently focused on fiscal discipline and the risks associated with heavy borrowing. He began his education at Gathukiini Primary School in Murang’a County before attending Kiambugi Secondary School.

Nyoro later studied Economics as an undergraduate at Kenyatta University, where he was involved in student leadership. He subsequently entered national politics and has built a profile around economic policy and constituency development.
