Raila Jr Plans to Restore Iconic Hammer Car and Display It at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi

Raila Odinga Junior has announced plans to restore the iconic "Hammer Car", a red Hummer H3, and display it at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, the family mausoleum in Bondo.

The vehicle, gifted to Raila Odinga by businessman Don Bosco Gichana ahead of the 2007 general election, became a symbol of his presidential campaign. Known for its striking presence at rallies, the Hummer quickly earned the nickname "Hammer" (Nyundo) and was seen as a representation of Odinga’s political strength and resilience.

It featured prominently during the 2007 election and its aftermath, when it continued to appear at key moments, strengthening its association with Odinga’s bid for leadership. Silas Jakakimba, a long-time aide to Odinga, has endorsed the restoration initiative.

He recalled being among the first to see the car, recognising its potential to enhance Odinga’s public image. Jakakimba later encouraged Gichana to donate the vehicle, which would go on to become a central element of Odinga’s political identity.

Jakakimba described the move as timely, emphasising that the vehicle’s significance extended beyond its role as a campaign accessory. He argued it symbolised Odinga’s determination to reshape the country’s governance and his appeal to ordinary citizens.
