Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru Reveals His Reasons for Supporting Kalonzo Musyoka Over Rigathi Gachagua

Ndegwa Njiru has declared his loyalty to Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Party, distancing himself from Rigathi Gachagua’s Democratic Congress Party (DCP) despite his previous involvement in Gachagua’s legal defence.

In a televised interview on Obina TV, Njiru confirmed his allegiance to the United Opposition, stating that his support lies with the broader opposition cause, not individual figures. “I don’t support Riggy G, I support the Opposition. The United Opposition is not about an individual… I am a member of the Wiper Patriotic Front,” he explained.

Njiru’s relationship with Gachagua has been multifaceted. Although he had been a vocal critic of the former deputy president, particularly on social media, he later joined Gachagua’s defence team during the impeachment trial, softening his stance. 

However, Njiru has now made it clear that professional involvement does not equate to political allegiance. He also laid out his conditions for supporting any presidential candidate, stating that his vote would depend on adherence to the opposition’s principles of constitutionalism, democracy, human rights, accountability, and social justice. 

“I will vote for any person the United Opposition fronts, as long as they uphold our ideals,” he said, leaving the door open for a possible endorsement of Gachagua if he aligns with the coalition’s values.

Njiru also called on President William Ruto to resign, urging that his departure would benefit the country. “Mr William Ruto, my name is Ndegwa Njiru. I come from Kirinyaga. If you could do Kenyans a favour and resign and go home, you would have done this country a great service,” he remarked.
