MP Denar Joseph Hamisi Dies at 56
Nominated Member of Parliament Denar Joseph Hamisi has died at the age of 56, Parliament announced on Saturday.
Speaker Moses Wetang’ula expressed deep sorrow, describing the loss as a significant blow to both the legislature and the nation. Hamisi, who served in Parliament since 2022 under the Amani National Congress (ANC) party, was known for his dedicated service, particularly in the Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture and the Select Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunities.
His work reflected a strong commitment to national unity and development. Born in Kinango in 1969, Hamisi pursued an academic path that included a Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management from the United States International University, followed by a Master’s degree in International Business Administration.
He later earned a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi. His educational background informed his extensive professional career, which spanned both public and private sectors.
Before entering politics, Hamisi held senior roles in various institutions, including Director of the Coast Development Authority, Commissioner at the Electoral Commission of Kenya, and Director at the Kenya Airports Authority. He was also a member of the governing councils of both the University of Nairobi and Moi University.
In honouring Hamisi’s contributions, Speaker Wetang’ula highlighted his professionalism and dedication to national service. To manage funeral arrangements, a parliamentary committee has been formed, led by Deputy Majority Leader Owen Baya. Further details on the burial programme will be shared soon.
