Kenyan Mother Breaks Down After Losing Two Sons Abroad Within One Week
A family in Kiambu County is mourning the death of George Chira Njuguna, who died in Dubai on 14 April, just two weeks after travelling there in search of work opportunities.
His relatives are now seeking KSh 800,000 to repatriate his body to Kenya. George left Kenya on 1 April 2026 with the assistance of a travel agent identified as Nduta, who is the daughter of his mother’s close friend.
His family believed he was travelling to begin a better life abroad. However, shortly after arriving in Dubai, he reportedly found himself without accommodation, food or support.
According to his relatives, George called his mother the day after his arrival and asked for money to buy food. Despite limited resources, she sent him what she could in the hope that his situation would improve.
His wife later said George made one final phone call to inform the family that someone had come to pick him up. That was the last time they heard from him.
After several days without communication, the family contacted Nduta for answers and were told not to worry. They were later informed that George was allegedly facing deportation because of claims about his mental health.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs later confirmed to the family that George had died in a road accident in Dubai. His body was taken to Ramayan Morgue. The family now faces the task of raising funds to return his remains home for burial.
The family’s grief has been compounded by another tragedy after George’s brother, James Ndung’u, died in Qatar earlier this week following a heart attack. Relatives said the costs of repatriating James’s body are being covered by other parties, but the family remains under emotional and financial strain.
George’s family is appealing to well-wishers for financial support to help repatriate his body. Contributions can be sent through 0718930098.
