US Opens Fulbright Scholarship Applications for Kenyans for 2027–2028
The United States has opened applications for the Fulbright Foreign Student Programme and the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Programme for Kenyan applicants for the 2027–2028 academic year, with a deadline of 20 April 2026.
In a statement released on Friday, the US Embassy in Nairobi confirmed that eligible Kenyan students and scholars can now apply for the prestigious academic exchange programmes, which support study, teaching, and research in the United States. The Fulbright Foreign Student Programme is aimed at graduates seeking to pursue master’s degrees at US universities.
Successful applicants receive full funding, covering tuition, travel, and living expenses, allowing them to focus entirely on their studies. The programme also offers participants access to academic and professional networks that can support long-term career development.
The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Programme is intended for university faculty members and academic administrators who already hold advanced degrees. It enables participants to conduct research, teach, or support curriculum development at American institutions.
The programme is designed to promote collaboration between Kenyan and US universities and to strengthen higher education systems through shared expertise.
The Embassy described the Fulbright awards as highly competitive and among the most respected international exchange programmes worldwide.
To support prospective applicants, a virtual information session will be held on 10 February to explain eligibility criteria and the application process. Applicants are required to submit their materials through the Embassy’s official online portal. First-time users must create an account, while returning applicants can log in to complete or update their applications.
The announcement comes as many Kenyan graduates continue to face limited employment opportunities locally. For participants, the Fulbright programmes offer advanced academic training and international exposure that may enhance future employability.
