Ruto Says UDA-ODM Coalition Must Win 2027 By Over Two Million Votes

President William Ruto has set an ambitious target for the UDA-ODM coalition in the 2027 General Election, aiming to secure a victory by a margin of two to three million votes.

Speaking at a National Governing Council meeting on January 26, 2026, Ruto expressed confidence in the coalition’s ability to consolidate national support and build on the lessons from his narrow 2022 win. Ruto pointed out that his 2022 victory, which was secured by just 200,000 votes, had demonstrated the need for broader backing in the upcoming election.

He argued that achieving substantial national transformation would require a strong electoral mandate and a unified political coalition. The President reiterated his commitment to political inclusivity, noting that the collaboration between UDA and ODM was essential for ending Kenya’s long-standing divisive politics.

In his address, Ruto highlighted the achievements of his administration, including advances in energy generation, agriculture modernisation, and infrastructure development. While he acknowledged the importance of these developments, he stressed that political strategy and grassroots mobilisation would be crucial to securing a decisive victory in 2027.

Central to Ruto’s strategy is the ongoing partnership with ODM. He revealed that UDA would pursue a negotiated coalition with ODM to strengthen governance and political stability. The President praised ODM leaders for their commitment to national development, stressing that the coalition’s focus would be on collective governance rather than partisan interests.

He also outlined plans to present the coalition talks to the National Executive Council for approval in the coming weeks. Ruto’s vision for the 2027 election centres on national unity, with the goal of offering a compelling alternative to Kenya’s history of divisive politics.
