Kenya’s Darts Star Celebrates Title Win With Special Stamford Bridge Visit
Kenyan darts player David Munyua visited Stamford Bridge after being invited by Chelsea to attend their Premier League match against Aston Villa on 27 December.
Munyua, 30, gained international recognition at the 2026 Professional Darts Corporation World Championship after a notable run at Alexandra Palace in London. The veterinarian from Kabati, Murang’a County, came from two sets down to defeat Belgium’s world number 18, Mike De Decker, in the opening round.
His tournament ended in the second round with a defeat by Dutch player Kevin Doets, but his performance attracted widespread attention and support. The appearance marked a significant moment in his darts career and raised his profile beyond the sport.
During the same period, Munyua achieved a personal ambition by visiting the home of his favourite football club. A Chelsea supporter for more than ten years, he was invited by the club to watch their league fixture against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.
The match ended in a 2-1 defeat for Chelsea. After taking a first-half lead through Joao Pedro, the home side conceded twice following the introduction of substitute Ollie Watkins, who secured the win for Villa.
Despite the result, Munyua described the visit as a childhood dream fulfilled. In a video posted on Instagram, he held a Chelsea shirt bearing his nickname “Why not” and the number 10, saying he was finally living his dream. Chelsea later confirmed his attendance through their official social media channels.
While at the stadium, Munyua took photographs and spoke pitchside with former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. In an interview with Sky Sports, he said he began supporting Chelsea at around the age of 10, drawn to the club’s determination during the era of Didier Drogba.
