Wandayi Hits Back at Kalonzo and Wamalwa Over NADCO Criticism
Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has defended the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report and criticised Kalonzo Musyoka and Eugene Wamalwa for their recent remarks on its implementation.
Speaking on 7 December, Wandayi accused Wamalwa of misrepresenting the report’s progress and questioned his credibility. He claimed the former Defence Cabinet Secretary declined to sign the final document, saying, “On the last day, while signing the report, Wamalwa ran away and declined to sign the report. He hid somewhere in Kilimani.”
Wandayi argued that this undermined Wamalwa’s position in challenging the government’s handling of the dialogue process. The dispute centres on concerns raised by Wamalwa and Kalonzo during the funeral of Beryl Odinga in Bondo, where they argued that key NADCO proposals remain unfulfilled, particularly those addressing justice for victims of election-related violence.
Kalonzo also questioned the government’s commitment and pace in carrying out the committee’s recommendations. Wandayi rejected these criticisms and highlighted ongoing government measures, including a committee established to compensate victims of political clashes dating back to 2017. He said it was misleading to dismiss these steps, noting that the compensation process is also navigating legal challenges in court.
He added that misleading claims weaken public trust and emphasised the need for accuracy among political leaders. Wandayi further suggested that the recent disagreements reflect deeper political divisions as the Luo community considers its future following the death of Raila Odinga.
He said, “Now we know our true friends, and we know those who are against us as a community. We have decided we are going forward together.”
