UAE Introduces Visa-on-Arrival for Eligible Kenyans Holding Foreign Residence Permits
Kenyan citizens holding valid residence permits from eight developed countries can now obtain visas on arrival in the United Arab Emirates under a new directive that took effect on 25 June 2026, according to the UAE Embassy in Nairobi.
The policy applies to holders of ordinary Kenyan passports who have valid residence permits from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore and South Korea. Eligible family members travelling with them may also benefit from the arrangement, subject to meeting the required conditions.
The UAE Embassy said the measure forms part of the country's efforts to strengthen its position as a global centre for tourism, trade and investment. The change removes the requirement for eligible Kenyan travellers to apply for a visa before departure.
For many Kenyans living abroad, the new system simplifies travel to the UAE. Previously, Kenyan citizens were required to complete visa applications in advance, even if they held permanent residency in one of the qualifying countries. The visa-on-arrival option is expected to reduce both processing time and travel-related costs.
The announcement comes amid growing cooperation between Kenya and the UAE. President William Ruto and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan have held a series of high-level meetings in recent years as the two countries expand collaboration in areas including trade, aviation and investment.
The UAE remains an important destination for Kenyan workers, business people and investors. The latest policy is expected to further strengthen those links by making travel more convenient for a segment of Kenya's diaspora.
The change may also affect travel patterns among Kenyans living overseas. With Dubai and Abu Dhabi serving as major transit hubs connecting Africa, Europe, Asia and North America, easier entry procedures could encourage more travellers to use the UAE as a stopover or destination.
The embassy emphasised that the arrangement is limited to Kenyan citizens holding residence permits from the specified countries. Those who do not meet this requirement must continue to follow the existing visa application process.
The policy is expected to benefit Kenyan families living abroad, particularly those who travel together.
