Kenyan–Polish Investor Making Waves in Poland’s Property Sector
Sławek Muturi achieved financial independence through property investment and retired from corporate life in 2009 at the age of 43.
Since then, he has become a prominent advocate for financial freedom and one of the most influential figures in Poland’s residential property sector. Born to a Kikuyu father and a Polish mother, Muturi's background reflects both African and European influences.
His father moved from colonial Kenya to Poland, where he worked as a lecturer and senior civil servant. The family name Muturi is often associated with the Kikuyu blacksmith tradition, a connection that reflects values of resilience and skilled craftsmanship.
Muturi speaks nine languages, including English, Swahili and Kikuyu. He has consistently viewed education as an important part of personal development. His studies included programmes at Warsaw Business School and London Business School, where he completed an MBA.
Before entering real estate full-time, Muturi built a successful corporate career. He held senior positions at Andersen and Deloitte Central Europe, gaining extensive experience in consulting and business management.
His investment journey began in 1998 with residential properties in Warsaw, Łódź and Katowice. Applying the same disciplined approach that had guided his corporate career, he steadily expanded his portfolio. By May 2009, income from his property investments had enabled him to leave corporate employment and focus on other pursuits.
After retiring, Muturi turned his attention to promoting financial independence. He has written five books and hundreds of articles on investing and personal finance. He also helped establish Poland’s first landlords’ association, contributing to the development of a more organised rental housing sector.
His work later led to the creation of the Mzuri Group, which has become one of Poland’s leading property management platforms. Through its investment and crowdfunding activities, Mzuri has enabled both individual and larger investors to participate in real estate projects, expanding access to property investment opportunities.
Muturi’s approach to systematic growth and investor-led housing development has similarities with initiatives in East Africa. In Kenya, Centum Investment Company has developed large-scale projects including the Two Rivers Development in Nairobi and the Vipingo community on the coast.
Beyond business, Muturi is also known for his extensive international travel. He has visited every country in the world twice, reflecting a longstanding interest in different cultures and societies.Today, Muturi’s career connects his African heritage, European business experience and global perspective.
