Gunfire and Unrest as More Bodies are Retrieved from Kware, Mukuru Slums

Tensions have escalated at Kware Police Station as growing crowds become increasingly disorderly over the recovery of five additional sacks holding human corpses.

The retrieval of multiple bodies found in sacks has drawn large crowds and sparked unrest in the area. Authorities initially reported recovering six bodies on Friday though eyewitness accounts suggested a higher number. The arrival of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) escalated the situation as they began transferring the contents of the sacks into body bags, a grim process that attracted numerous onlookers and heightened emotions among the gathered crowd.

The scene quickly devolved into chaos as police resorted to firing warning shots into the air to maintain order. By mid-afternoon, two water cannons were positioned to potentially disperse the growing throng of people. However, crowd control remained a significant challenge despite the arrival of additional police reinforcements including Recce Squad officers. Some individuals broke through police cordons with some even threatening to open the sacks themselves,.

In an attempt to regain control, law enforcement erected rope barriers around the police station to keep the surging crowd at bay. However, the strong odour emanating from the sacks only intensified the unease and curiosity of onlookers who watched the unfolding events with a mixture of horror and fascination. Authorities are working to identify the victims and determine the circumstances that led to their remains being discarded in such a manner.

The community remains on edge as the death toll continues to rise with reports indicating that at least 15 bodies have been retrieved from the nearby Kware dumpsite and more are yet to be recovered. Residents of Mukuru Kwa Njenga have also come forward with accounts of discovering bodies in sacks, adding to the growing tally of victims.
