Makau Mutua Advises Women to Exercise Extreme Caution When Dealing With Men
Azimio Spokesperson Makau Mutua has urged women to exercise caution in their interactions with men.
Mutua draws attention to the growing problem of femicide in Kenya and stresses the importance of addressing it. He advises women to exercise caution when dealing with men and to thoroughly investigate their backgrounds before placing their trust in them. Mutua expresses his worry about the presence of dangerous individuals in the country and emphasizes the gravity of the femicide issue. Following the tragic killings of Starlet Wahu and Rita Waeni in Roysambu, Mutua's comments have gained significant traction and sparked reactions from Kenyans on various social media platforms.
Other segments of society have also expressed their concerns and advocated for action to tackle these troubling instances. Mutua's stance aligns with that of other leaders and non-governmental organizations who have urged preventive measures against these acts. Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has also conveyed his dissatisfaction with the increasing number of femicide cases and stresses that these abnormal killings must not be viewed as commonplace.
The issue of violence against women has reached a critical point and is now considered a national crisis. In response, the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) has made an urgent plea to President William Ruto, asking him to declare femicide and other forms of Gender Based Violence as a state of emergency. KEWOPA has also called upon the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the Inspector General of Police to speed up their ongoing investigations into femicide cases and ensure that those responsible are held accountable. The increasing number of femicide incidents in the country has also been strongly condemned by the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA).
These requests for action come in response to the recent shocking killings of Starlet Wahu and Rita Waeni in Roysambu. KEWOPA's chairperson Leah Sankaire has strongly criticized the growing instances of violence against women in the country. An issue that demands attention is the ongoing mistreatment of women on different online platforms where they are unjustly held responsible for their own deaths. Sankaire emphasizes that this pattern reveals the disturbing increase in Gender Based Violence aided by technology and social media.
