Nairobi Hospital Director Maigo's Murder: How Suspect Was Arrested
New information has surfaced regarding the apprehension of the primary suspect in the murder investigation of Eric Maigo, the Acting Finance Director of Nairobi Hospital, who was murdered on Tuesday night.
According to the police, the juvenile offender, speculatively aged 15-17 years, had dodged law enforcement for two weeks before being apprehended at her friend's residence in the slum area. At around 7 p.m., she sought refuge for the night by returning to the house. Reports indicate that the suspect had been located in several locations including the Cemetery area, Olympics, and Show Ground in the Jamhuri area. Following a whirlwind of events, the suspect fled to her friend's house and then was busted by Anne's mother who gave a heads-up to the authorities.
The police had been using phone surveillance on individuals associated with the suspect in order to compile potential leads for their investigation. The suspect was arrested in line with a joint effort between detectives of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the DCI sub-county team from Kilimani. Occurring during the Nairobi International Trade Fair, law enforcement maintained a strong presence within both the city and its surrounding slums.
Currently detained at Muthaiga Police Station, the suspect faces transfer to Kilimani Police Station which is handling the ongoing investigation into her case. She shall make an arraignment appearance in court on Wednesday during which the police will request additional time for custody as they plan to conduct various tests before determining the charges. 12 individuals including the deceased's colleagues from the hospital, witnesses who spotted the suspect, the accused's mother and three friends have given statements.
It’s important to mention that noticeable injuries on the abdomen of the teenager resulted from a fall on the crime scene on September 15. On Sunday, the police revealed that the teenager narrowly escaped detection after leaving a house where she had spent the night in the Olympic area. The police sifted through certain areas of the Kibera slums and engaged with friends and family to attempt to gain an understanding of her background prior to apprehension.
They also visited various healthcare facilities to determine if she sought medical assistance after being captured on camera falling on a sharp razor-wire fence surrounding Maigo's residence while fleeing the scene. Maigo will be buried at his Keumbu, Kisii rural home on September 29.
