I Helped Mau Mau Veteran After Riggy G Was Unreachable, Says Raila
Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga on August 25, revealed that he paid a hospital bill for a deceased Mau Mau veteran because the family was unable to reach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
According to the opposition leader, the hospital would not admit the veteran until a certain amount of money was paid but the family could not afford it. Raila facilitated the payment and ensured that the veteran was admitted to the hospital. He also mentioned that the veteran was in a bad state before being admitted. Both Raila and the Deputy President attended the funeral of the Mau Mau veteran. During a condolence visit to the family and friends of Mau Mau freedom fighter John Njigoya Kagwe, known as Brigadier Kiboko, Gachagua paid tribute to his immense contribution to Kenya's fight for independence.
"I told my doctor to call the hospital for them to admit him since I was to facilitate all the payments. He was admitted after they had looked for Riggy G and didn't find him but they got Baba," he said.
Meanwhile, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has urged the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to improve revenue collection by inspiring confidence among taxpayers and promoting voluntary compliance. Mudavadi on Friday emphasized the importance of professionalism, efficiency, fairness, accountability, and transparency in tax administration to achieve the full potential in revenue mobilization. He also highlighted how revenue collection can help Kenya meet its national and international obligations. He urged Kenyans not to take heed of dissenting voices purporting that the government is implementing oppressive taxes.
