We Don't Have Jobs for You, Gachagua Tells Graduates
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has warned university graduates that the government does not have jobs for them.
Speaking at a graduation ceremony at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology on Friday, the Deputy President said the graduates stand to benefit from the Housing Fund, which will create employment opportunities. The DP mentioned that the controversial Fund will see the Nation build 200,000 houses every year.
"I am an honest man, I don't want to sit here and lie to you that we have jobs for you, these jobs we are going to create together with you. This is a University of Science and Technology our MPs aggressively passed the Finance Bill, 2023 to create the Housing Fund." Gachagua said.
The DP asserted that JKUAT alumni will be the big beneficiaries of the Housing Fund. He also said that those who will be left out after the Housing Fund employees are chosen will have to focus on business. Gachagua urged them to maintain a positive mindset towards whatever they do.
"Your parents were not employed by anybody, 70 per cent of them but through hard work, creative and innovative thinking they have seen you through to university, you are ten times better than your parents," he said.
He further encouraged the graduates that the employment world is not that ruined. He stated that life is not easy, but with a bit of patience, they will achieve what they desire, despite the nation grappling with unemployment and a high cost of living. Meanwhile, President William Ruto has continued to tout the Finance Bill 2023, promising to create jobs through the housing fund.
