The Office of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has come under heavy condemnation from Azimio for inviting bidders for the supply of seafood through an advert made in the dailies.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has condemned the Deputy President for seeking a supply of fish and seafood yet Kenyans can hardly put food on the table. Sifuna dubbed Mr Gachagua as Marie Antoinette for seeking and savoring lobster and prawn when Kenyans struggle to buy unga. Marie Antoinette was a queen in France who splurged on fashion and other ornate indulgences.

"Rigathi Gachagua is Kenya’s Marie Antoinette. At a time most Kenyans can barely afford unga, he is putting out tenders for lobster and prawn, "Sifuna told the Star.

The advert from Gachagua's office has invited qualified bidders to compete in the supply of poultry, beef, pork, lamb and goat. The tender is applicable through Financial Years 2023/2024 and 2024/2025.

The Public Procurement and Disposal Act enables public offices to invite tenders for goods and services in the public space. M

eanwhile, President William Ruto endeavors to partake in budget cuts in order to reduce the country's budget deficits. The government will target non-essential spending, especially on traveling and advertising.

The Government has already trimmed budget allocations for foreign travel, training, and purchases of furniture.
