Gachagua Claims Former President Uhuru Kenyatta is Sponsoring Azimio Protests

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua claims former President Uhuru Kenyatta is behind the planned demonstrations by Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition.

Speaking in Kirinyaga County on Saturday, the deputy president accused Kenyatta of funding the protests in a bid to derail the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“These people who are sponsoring this mzee should stop living in denial...this mzee lost...there is nothing they can do,” Gachagua said.

Insisting that President Ruto will not be cowed by the planned mass action, Gachagua called on security agencies to protect the property of civilians during the demonstrations.

“I want to assure the people of Kenya that adequate plans have been made to protect the lives and property of Kenyans. We want Kenyans to go about their businesses. Ruto hapana mtoto wa cerelac, ni chuma wa zamani...huyo si mtu wa kuuziwa uwoga...uwoga uliuzia yule mtu wa cerelac,” Gachagua added.

The deputy president’s sentiments were echoed by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah and other Kenya Kwanza leaders accompanying him.

Ichung’wa stated: “Uhuru Kenyatta because you are the principal sponsor of the demonstrations...Raila Odinga is a mercinary sponsored by Uhuru Kenyatta.”

Opposition leader Raila Odinga has called for countrywide mass action on Monday to compel President Ruto’s administration to address their demands, chief among them lowering the cost of living.

On Sunday, Odinga accused Ruto and Gachagua of what he termed as pride and looking down on opposition leaders.

“If he (Ruto) wanted to talk, he would have. We gave him 14 days to get back but he didn’t, he refused and only addressed us on television. His deputy talks proudly and uses demeaning language,” Raila said.

“This is the language they will understand. The demos will go on even beyond Monday until the whole world knows there is a problem in Kenya.”
