Nairobi Woman Charged with Drugging Husband and Robbing Him of Sh240,000

John Wanjohi Feb 25, 2023

A 22-year-old woman has been charged with drugging and stealing Sh240,000 from her husband’s mobile money account.

Caroline Wangui Wanjiku was charged alongside her aunt Esther Wambui and her uncle Peter Mwaura with conspiracy to commit a felony contrary to Section 393 of the Penal Code.

The three are accused of jointly colluding to steal the money from Francis Macharia Ndung’u in Nairobi’s Kayole estate on February 21st. Wanjiku was solely charged with administering a drug to Ndung’u on the same date in order to commit a felony.

The court heard that Wanjiku and Ndung’u were at their rental house on the night of February 20th and they had an altercation over infidelity claims before they went to bed.

The next day, Ndung’u woke up and found his wife missing from the house, having left behind their child and a house help. He phoned her but she did not pick up his calls.

He checked his MPesa account and found Sh240,000 had been transferred to his wife’s phone number. Ndung’u first went to a hospital and later reported the matter at Kayole police station.

Investigations established that Wanjiku drugged her husband and transferred the cash to herself before sending some of the money to her aunt Wambui, who in turn moved the cash to her husband Mwaura.

Mwaura withdrew the money and deposited it into Wanjiku’s bank account on February 21st. Police traced and arrested the three.

The three denied charges before Makadara law courts Senior Principal Magistrate Mary Njagi and were released on a bond of Sh120,000 with a surety of a similar amount or an alternative cash bail of Sh100,000 each.

The case will be mentioned on May 9th.
