World Bank Pledges Support for the Hustler Fund

John Wanjohi Feb 07, 2023

The World Bank has pledged to support the Hustler Fund in order to lift Kenya’s most vulnerable group.

The international lender made the pledge during a consultative meeting between President Ruto and a World Bank delegation led by the Regional Vice President for Eastern and Southern Africa Victoria Kwakwa at State House, Nairobi. On Tuesday.

Kwakwa said the bank will offer the Hustler Fund technical and financial support.

"The bank associates strongly with programs and initiative that empower the poor and most vulnerable. We will bring to the table ways to provide a safety net for these individuals" she said.

She further reiterated the bank’s support for the country’s programs against climate change.

On his part, President Ruto commended the World Bank’s decision to recognize the Hustler Fund in cushioning the vulnerable, saying the technical assistance will go a long way in making the fund more inclusive and transformative to millions of ordinary Kenyans.

Ruto also acknowledged the role the World Bank has played in the development of the country and called on the lender to scale up investment in programs to increase agricultural productivity, saying the government was working on the construction of dams and fertilizer subsidies among others.

"We are looking forward to your support in our development agenda," he said.
