A land registrar based at the Ngong Land Registry has been arrested on allegations of demanding a Sh2.5 million bribe from a Kenyan in order to process a title deed.

Charles Mwendwa Mutua was arrested on Monday by officers from Kilimani police station after he was caught receiving Sh900,000, which was a bargain from the aforesaid bribe.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) said the suspect was arrested following a series of investigations against him.

This was after a complaint was presented to the anti-graft agency claiming that Mutua, in collusion with his senior Caroline Simuli Kituyi, is notorious for demanding huge bribes for title deeds to be processed.

"On 7th December 2022, the Commission received a report from a member of the public who alleged that both Caroline Simuli Kituyi and Charles Mwendwa Mutua based at Ngong Land Registry were demanding a bribe from him in order to process the Title Deeds of his land," EACC said.

EACC said investigations established that the accusations were indeed true, prompting detectives to make the arrest.

Detectives are also in pursuit of Kituyi who is said to have evaded arrest and has been ordered to present herself to Integrity Centre Police Station.

Mutua is being held at Kilimani police station pending further processing.
