Winnie Odinga to be Summoned to Parliament for Skipping Ruto’s Meeting with EALA MPs
A section of Kenya Kwanza MPs has threatened to recall East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP-elect Winnie Odinga for skipping President Ruto’s meeting.
Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji said Winnie, who is the daughter of Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga, will be summoned to Parliament to explain why she failed to attend Ruto’s meeting with EALA MPs.
“We are going to call Winnie Odinga in the National Assembly to explain why she did not appear in serious meetings such as the one called by the President and which was attended by all members including the son of Kalonzo Musyoka,” said Mukunji.
“All members of EALA yesterday went and met the President and the CS in charge of the East African region and they were there to get the mandate of our standing as a country on the issues of the East African Community.”
“To our shock, the young madam was not there and I want to say that it’s a shame that we still carry ourselves with the boundaries that we are not supposed to carry ourselves. We ended the elections on 9th August. There’s no way we can go back,” Mukunji added.
Mukunji said that MPs will consider recalling Winnie from EALA for not appearing in official EALA functions.
On Monday, Ruto held a meeting with EALA MPs-elect at State House, Nairobi, and only Ms. Odinga was absent out of the nine elected members.
The nine elected EALA members are set to be sworn in on December 21st, 2022, at the regional assembly in Arusha, Tanzania.
They include Hassan Omar, Mwangi Maina, Iman Falhada, Ziporah Kering, David Sankok, Kennedy Kalonzo, Winne Odinga, Kanini Kega, and Suleiman Shahbal.
