Kalonzo Congratulates President-elect Ruto Ahead of His Inauguration

John Wanjohi Sep 10, 2022

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has congratulated President-elect William Ruto and wished him well ahead of his swearing-in on Tuesday.

Musyoka, who spoke at a burial ceremony in Machakos on Saturday, said the Azimio coalition will abide by the Supreme Court judgment validating Ruto’s victory even though they do not agree with it.

“I congratulate the President-elect, who will become President on Tuesday, William Ruto. We respect him…we did not agree with the verdict of the Supreme Court but we are bound by it. This is what a nation is…we will swallow all the bitterness because of our country, knowing that God is with us,” he said.

He further indicated that Azimio leaders have resolved to remain in the opposition to put the government in check and ensure the delivery of some of the projects promised by Raila Odinga, including reviving the Yatta Dam project.

“Never mind even if we will be in opposition, we will push for Yatta Dam and everything else. In fact, it is better for me when I’m in opposition to deal with these people. So don’t be discouraged at all. We basically said that five years is a short time, we are going to serve in the opposition the best way we can and we are ready,” he added.

At the same time, Musyoka dismissed reports of joining Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance, adding that if that was to happen, he would do it in the open glare of the public and would have to be ratified by the Wiper party.

“Kuna wengine walikuwa wanaweka kwa mitandao jana wakisema ati Kalonzo amekutana na William Ruto. Jameni, Ruto alikuja kuniona wakati nilipoteza baba yangu mzazi 2018. Mimi si mtu wa kichinichini. Nikitaka kukutana na Ruto nitakutana na yeye wazi baada ya kufanya mazungumzo na chama chetu cha Wiper na Azimio-OKA,” he quipped.
