Uhuru to Ruto: Stop Lying to Kenyans That I Want to Kill You

John Wanjohi Jul 31, 2022

President Kenyatta has fired back at Deputy President William Ruto, saying that he has no intention of harming him, his family or allies.

Kenyatta, who spoke during the official commissioning of the Nairobi Expressway on Sunday, noted that Ruto and his allies have been insulting him for the past three years yet he has never harmed any of them.

“There is no need of telling people that I want to kill you. Haven’t you insulted me for three years? Haven’t I been the holder of this office for those three years? I had the power to do so. Now, when I am getting ready to hand over, and have limited powers, do you think I have the time to look for you?” Uhuru posed.

Kenyatta asked Ruto to stop telling lies and focus on drumming up support for his presidential bid even as he urged Kenyans to maintain peace during and after the upcoming elections.

“There is no need for insults and when I answer you lies do not tell people I want to kill you…. Sell your agenda and stories and leave me alone. I will do my job and complete it. You go and ask the electorate for votes, if they elect you that’s fine and if not, we will go home together,” said Kenyatta.

“In a week’s time we will be exercising our constitutional right to choose the next administration. I want to urge Kenyans to maintain peace during the remaining campaign period. And on and after the day of the election…Everybody, including myself, has the freedom to vote for their preferred candidate.”

Kenyatta was responding to Ruto, who accused the president of threatening him and his allies in the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

“As long as you don’t kill my children, I am ready to face you in this election with your project. Mr. President, you shouldn’t be the source of a threat in Kenya. Stop threatening Kenyans. Your work is to ensure that all Kenyans are safe. Stop telling us that we will know that you’re the President,” Ruto stated.
