New TIFA Poll Ranks Raila as the Most Preferred Presidential Candidate
A new poll by Trends and Insights For Africa (TIFA) has ranked Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition’s Raila Odinga as the most popular presidential candidate ahead of the August 9th general elections.
Odinga, who is giving his fifth stab at the presidency, would garner 42 percent of the votes cast ahead of his main competitor Deputy President William Ruto whose popularity stands at 39 percent. Root Party presidential candidate George Wajackoyah came in third, with four percent of respondents saying they would vote for him.
The survey conducted between June 25th and 30th found that 10 percent of Kenyans are yet to decide which presidential candidate they will vote for while five percent failed to respond.
80 percent of Odinga’s supporters are satisfied with Martha Karua as his choice of running mate while 62 percent of Ruto’s supporters backed the choice of Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate, according to the poll.
The poll further shows that Odinga, 77, stood out as the most preferred candidate in the Coast, Lower eastern, Nairobi, Nyanza, South Rift, and Western regions. On the other hand, Ruto is the most preferred candidate in the Central Rift, Mt Kenya, and Nothern regions.
