Gachagua: I Will Recover My Frozen Money When We Take Power
Deputy President William Ruto’s running mate Rigathi Gachagua says his bank accounts will be unfrozen if they form the next government.
Gachagua’s three bank accounts at Rafiki Microfinance holding over Sh200 million were frozen by the High Court in 2020 as the government questioned the source of Sh12.5 billion that passed through them between 2013 and 2020.
The first-time MP is said to have used proxies to fraudulently win tenders in various county governments, State agencies, and ministries through 22 companies with him as the sole beneficiary.
Speaking in Mathira, Nyeri County on Tuesday, Gachagua vowed to recover the money if the Kenya Kwanza Alliance clinches the presidency in the August 9th elections.
“You all know the current government has frozen all my bank accounts. When our government gets to power and I become the Deputy President, I know my accounts will be unfrozen, I know my salary will increase,” he told residents.
The MP promised to use the funds to expand his residence in Mathira where men will have a fireside chat as they imbibe their favorite drinks, while women engage 'Mama Gachagua' as they drink porridge and dance.
“I put up a good house and a small house ya wazee ya kuchomea nyama as they take their favourite drinks as we chat - sawa?. Then for women I put up a place where they can be visiting Mama Gachagua to take porridge as they sing and praise. And because women love dancing I will install a kinanda for dancing to,” Gachagua added.
He further urged residents to invite him to all the incomplete churches to make donations if he becomes the deputy president, saying that his contributions will increase from Sh100,000 to Sh1 million and above.
“I thank the church because if it were not for prayers, I would not have been elevated to this position. I promise that when I get there I will increase my donation to churches from Sh100,000 that I have been donating to Sh1 million. I know God will bless me more.”
Gachagua insists that he did not embezzle the funds, claiming that he was being targeted unfairly over his allegiance to Ruto.
