Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has been locked out of the 2022 presidential race.

The Star reports that Kalonzo’s name is missing from the latest list of 16 presidential candidates released by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Friday.

Eight of the 16 presidential candidates are vying on an independent ticket while the remaining are contesting under various political parties.

The 16 presidential candidates are from the initial list of 56 and are set to undergo a further vetting process to be conducted by the electoral commission between May 29th and June 6th.

They include Raila Odinga of the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party, William Ruto of UDA, Prof. George Wajackoya (Roots Party), David Mwaure Waihiga (Agano Party), Jimi Wanjigi (Safina), Dr. Ekutru Aukot (Third Way Alliance), Mwangi Wa Iria (Usawa kwa Wote), and Njeru Kathangu (Ford Asili).

Others are Gibson Ngaruiya Ng'ang'a, Dorothy Kemunto Nyangori, Peter Mubiko King'ori, Jeremiah Nyaga, Jane Juliet Munyeki, Faith Wairimu Ngigi, Eliud Muthiora Kariara, and George Munyotta Kamau—all vying as independent candidates.

Kalonzo quit the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition and announced he will vie for the presidency after the alliance’s presidential flagbearer Raila Odinga settled on Nark-Kenya leader Karua as his running mate in the August 9th State House race. He unveiled Andrew Leteipa Ole Sunkuli as his running mate, claiming that Odinga shortchanged him.

Kalonzo, who is currently on a private tour to the United Kingdom, is expected to make a big announcement at a rally in Kilgoris, Narok County on May 31st.
