Kalonzo Quits Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Coalition, To Vie for Presidency on August 9th

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has ditched the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition and announced he will vie for the presidency in the August 9th elections.

Musyoka announced the move shortly after the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition presidential flagbearer Raila Odinga named Nark-Kenya party leader Martha Karua as his running mate.

He said his decision to run for the presidency followed consultations with top Wiper party officials, adding that he quit the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition over what he termed as deceit.

“We have agreed to go separate ways with Azimio La Umoja and compare notes as we do so. I wish Raila Odinga's running mate Martha Karua well,” said Kalonzo at the SKM Command center in Karen.

He added: "If there is no faith, you can't do business... For how long do people expect Kalonzo Musyoka to be the one sacrificing? and even if we sacrifice, they mess up, Kenyans had assumed when I said I will support Raila for a third time that it’s obvious (that I’ll be running mate).”

Musyoka, who was among the 10 candidates interviewed by the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition running mate selection panel, unveiled Andrew Sunkuli as his running mate. He noted that he would have picked KANU Chairman and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi as his running mate if the Raila-led coalition had “not been messed up”.
