It’s imminent: Kabogo Predicts a Run in the August 9th Presidential Election
Former Kiambu governor William Kabogo says the August 9th presidential election will not be won in the first round and will be decided through a runoff.
Kabogo, who is eyeing the Kiambu gubernatorial seat on a Tujibebe Wakenya party ticket, opines that none of the presidential candidates will meet the constitutional threshold of 50 percent plus one vote.
As a result, the two leading candidates Raila Odinga of the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition and Kenya Kwanza alliance’s William Ruto will face off in a rerun. Kabogo believes that the choice of a running mate will determine who between the two will carry the day.
"I smell a rerun, it’s imminent. Like I said before, the choice of a running mate will decide the 5th. Am not a witch neither am I a prophet but I see," Kabogo said through Twitter on Saturday.
Kabogo recently threatened to withdraw his support for Ruto following a leaked Kenya Kwanza alliance power-sharing deal that will see ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and his Ford-Kenya counterpart Moses Wetang’ula become the Prime Cabinet Secretary and National Assembly speaker respectively.
The two would also get 30 percent of the government should Ruto win the election, according to a coalition agreement deposited with the Registrar of Political Parties.
"I want to send a message. I have seen the coalition agreement between UDA, Ford Kenya, and ANC. When I met the deputy president in Dubai, I told him I don't want anything from his government. The only thing I want is for you to share resources based on the population to ensure the Mt Kenya region gets its fair share of the government revenue,” Kabogo said on Thursday.
"I didn't see that in the coalition agreement. If that is not rectified to capture the interest of the people living in Mt Kenya, then we will have to leave.”
