Peter Munya, Lee Kinyanjui and Wycliffe Oparanya Added to Raila's Running Mate Shortlist
Three more names have been added to the shortlist of the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition presidential flagbearer Raila Odinga’s running mate.
They include Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya (Party of National Unity), Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui (Jubilee), and his Kakamega counterpart Wycliffe Oparanya (ODM).
This brings to 11 the total number of individuals shortlisted for interview for the position, according to the Chairperson of the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition presidential running mate selection panel Dr. Noah Wekesa.
“We have arrived at modalities of arriving at three candidates who will be forwarded to Odinga. We will engage the candidates on the 9th and 10th. We will conclude our business on 10th,” Wekesa said during a media briefing on Saturday.
The panel shortlisted eight other candidates on Friday, including Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper Party), Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege (Jubilee Party), Martha Karua (NARC Kenya), and former presidential aspirant Peter Kenneth (Jubilee Party).
Others are Baringo Senator Gideon Moi (KANU), Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho (ODM), Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu (NARC), and former Kenyan ambassador to Australia Stephen Kipkiyeny Torus (National Liberal Party).
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has given political parties until May 16th to submit the names of their presidential candidates and their respective running mates.
