Woman Who Insulted KICC OCS After Using a Presidential Staircase Charged
A 29-year-old woman was on Friday arraigned in a Nairobi court where she was charged with insulting a senior police officer.
Kincy Nangami Wafula is alleged to have insulted the officer after she cautioned her against using a presidential staircase at Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) building, where she was reportedly attending a Church conference.
The court heard that the accused used abusive words on KICC OCS Catherine Otieno and Susan Misoi at the conference facility on March 31st.
“You are charged that on March 31st, 2022 in a public place namely KICC building within Nairobi County you used abusive words by calling Catherine Otieno, the KICC OCS and Susan Misoi ‘umbwa stupid, useless and f*ck you’ with intent to provoke a breach of peace,” the charge sheet read in part.
Nangami, who works at a Nairobi company, was looking for a toilet to relieve herself when she bumped into the police officer, who was on patrol on the second floor of the building.
An altercation ensued after Nangami was stopped by the officer and questioned on why she was using the presidential staircase, according to a police report.
“On the material day, the KICC police station OCS was on patrol duties when she found the accused person using a staircase preserved for the president. She stopped her and cautioned her about the same but the accused became hostile,” reads a police report on the incident.
Nangami was later arrested and detained. Appearing at Milimani law courts, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on a bond of Sh20,000.
