President Kenyatta on Friday drummed up support for the Azimio La Umoja coalition and its presidential flagbearer Raila Odinga in Nairobi.

Addressing a roadside rally in Korogocho, Mathare, Kenyatta urged residents to rally behind Odinga and Azimio ahead of the August 9th elections.

Kenyatta, who was in the area to open the new 350-bed Margaret Kenyatta Children’s Level IV Hospital, called for peace during and after the upcoming elections.

He told off Deputy President William Ruto and his allies for peddling lies and politicizing government agenda to gain political mileage.

Kenyatta reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting boda boda riders and dismissed claims by some politicians that there was a plan to frustrate the sector.

"We have no problem with anyone doing their business in the right manner. I will organize to meet you soon so that together we can work on how to improve the sector and ensure you reap maximum benefits from your sweat,” Uhuru told boda boda riders.

“We will sit as leaders and agree on the way forward….Kwa hivyo mtashikilia Baba na Azimio mkono?" Uhuru posed.

Kenyatta declared that no amount of threats and insults will deter him from working to improve the lives of Kenyans.

“I will continue to stand firm in my resolution that national unity is the most important thing for the country’s development and progress. I believe that justice will prevail not threats and insults,” he added.
