ODM Says Ruto is Setting the Stage to Reject Election Results
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has hit out at Deputy President William Ruto over vote-rigging claims.
On Tuesday, Ruto urged the US and the international community to intervene and stop attempts to rig the August 9th presidential election in favor of his opponent.
Ruto, who spoke during his ongoing tour of the US, claimed that some government agencies and a clique of individuals were out to influence the outcome of the forthcoming elections.
The deputy president spoke at the Karson Institute for Race, Peace, and Social justice in Loyola University in Maryland.
But responding to these claims, ODM Chairman John Mbadi said Ruto has sensed defeat and is setting the stage to reject the results of the upcoming elections.
“Political tide has caused panic among our competitors. Our presidential candidate Raila Odinga is cruising to the presidency, you can read the signs,” said Mbadi.
“What he said is curious, I think he is setting stage to dispute the August 9th elections. The same man who has previously told that even if Raila’s brother, Oburu Odinga is the IEBC chairman, he will still win the polls.”
Mbadi, who is also the MP for Suba South, also questioned whether Ruto was admitting he participated in rigging in the past two elections.
“What is Ruto telling us? Is he admitting that he has participated in elections rigging in previous elections?” Mbadi posed.
Mbadi insisted that Kenyatta’s endorsement for Odinga’s presidency should not be misconstrued as an unfair advantage.
“President Uhuru Kenyatta endorsement for Odinga is a personal decision, let everyone like Odinga go out there and sell their agenda to the electorates,” he added.
