Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria Joins Race for Kiambu Governor Seat

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has declared interest in the Kiambu gubernatorial seat.

Through his Facebook page on Saturday, Kuria shared a poster indicating that he will be contesting for the county’s top seat in the August 9th elections.

"Vox Populi Vox Dei. The voice of the people is the voice of God. So help me God. Under your wings I feel safe," Kuria captioned the poster.

Kuria, who is the party leader of Chama Cha Kazi (CCK), joins a list of at least six candidates who are eyeing the Kiambu governor’s seat in the forthcoming elections.

The seat is currently held by James Nyoro, who was sworn in two years ago following the impeachment of Ferdinand Waititu over alleged embezzlement of public funds, gross misconduct, and abuse of office. Nyoro is seeking to defend his seat on a Jubilee Party ticket.

Other candidates include Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi, Thika Town MP Patrick Wainaina, university don Juliet Kimemia, Kiambu County Assembly Speaker Stephen Ndichu, among others.

Kuria jetted back into the country last week from Dubai, where he spent weeks undergoing treatment after sustaining third-degree burns on his feet. He was injured after an electric mat he was using to ease numbness in his feet malfunctioned.

Having considered all options, including amputating his feet, his medical team advised him to undergo a rare stem cell surgery at the Dubai American Hospital. He underwent 10 surgeries in Kenya and abroad and has since regained his ability to walk independently.

Kuria said he purchased the electric therapeutic mat from Nairobi-based company Ceragem Limited for Sh250,000 through a friend.
