Nyandarua Senator Mwangi Githiomi Ditches Jubilee for Ruto's UDA Party
Nyandarua Senator Mwangi Githiomi has become the latest leader to ditch the ruling Jubilee Party ahead of the August 9th general elections.
Githiomi, who is the Chairperson of the Senate Lands Committee, decamped to the Deputy President William Ruto-led United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party on Friday.
The first-time senator was received to the ‘hustler nation’ by Ruto at the deputy president’s Karen residence, where he declared he will defend his seat in the forthcoming elections.
"Growing bigger and better. Welcoming Nyandarua Senator Hon. Mwangi Githiomi to the Hustler Nation," Ruto wrote on his Facebook page.
Githiomi was also welcomed by a host of other UDA leaders among them Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata, MPs Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu) and Kimani Ichung'wa (Kikuyu).
Githiomi’s decision to ditch Jubilee comes as the President Kenyatta-led party holds its National Delegates Convention (NDC) on Friday at the Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC).
It also comes ahead of Ruto’s tour of Kinangop, Ol-Kalou, Oljoorok and Ndaragwa constituencies in Nyandarua County to drum support for his presidential bid.
