Baba Care: Raila Pledges Health Insurance Cover for All Kenyans if Elected in 2022
2022 presidential candidate Raila Odinga has pledged to revamp the country’s health sector to ensure Kenyans get access to quality and affordable healthcare.
Under a program dubbed “Baba Care”, Odinga says his administration will provide health insurance cover for all Kenyans.
"Ndani ya Baba Care kila mkenya atakuwa na bima ya matibabu. Ni aibu watu wanakuja kwangu anacheti kutoka kwa daktari lakini hana pesa. Wengine hawana deposit. Mtu anatibiwa lakini hawezi kutoka kwa sababu hana fedha kitanda ni bei ya juu. Haya yote tutamaliza," said Odinga.
The ODM leader was speaking on Sunday during a meeting with over 10,000 ward leaders in Mombasa county where he laid out his plan for the country if elected president next year.
“We have the vision, the will, and the solution to this problem. Expectant mothers will no longer have to walk for long distances to bring new life in the world, we have to fix our health sector and the time is now. It is doable. And with proper management of resources and bringing an end to corruption, we can achieve this,” he said.
While drumming support for his 'Azimio la Umoja' campaign, Odinga further promised to create jobs for Kenyans by developing manufacturing industries in various sectors, including the untapped blue economy sector.
"Tutaleta ajira hapa. Tulipanga na Kibaki hii special economic zone, the blue economy itatoa ajira kwa watu wetu. Tutajenga viwanda ambazo zitawapa kazi vijana na kina mama hapa," he noted.
Raila, who formally announced his 2022 State House bid last week, also pledged to continue with President Kenyatta’s legacy if he succeeds him next year.
“I will pick from where he would have left to ensure the people of this region suffer no more, it is the responsibility of the government to ensure all Kenyans live a good life and share the National cake equally,” he added.
